Introduction
to Outdoor Leader Skills
|
|
Outdoor skills are critical to the success
of the Scouting program, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will
provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a
program right. Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills is the required outdoor
training for all Scoutmasters, assistant Scoutmasters, and Varsity Scout
coaches and is the fourth part of Boy Scout Leader Basic training. The
skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Boy Scout
Handbook. Any registered adult may take this training.
Instructors will help you learn how to set
up camp, cook, work with woods tools and about ropes, first aid, planning
campfire programs, map reading and compass skills, hiking and packing
techniques, nature identification, and Leave No Trace. Each outdoor session
will bring to life the pages of the Boy Scout Handbook to help you deliver
the promise of Scouting to yourself and the youth you serve. In other words,
the skills scouts need know in order to advance. It will increase your
comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader. The
program will also give you the opportunity to work with other Scout leaders
from your area, meet new friends, and reinforce skill techniques with fellow
unit leaders. |
| The Great Trails Council
invites you to participate in this fun-filled program of hands-on skills
training in the outdoors. If you are an experienced Scouter, this will be a
great opportunity to brush-up on your outdoor skills and pass on some of
your knowledge to less experienced leaders. If you are new to Scouting or
you are uncomfortable taking boys into the outdoors, then this course is a
must! This course is required for Boy Scout and Varsity Scout leaders basic
training and to earn the "Trained" patch and several of the Boy Scout leader
?knots?. The course will be at Chesterfield Scout Reservation on April
