On
Saturday June 7, 2008 the Chesterfield Scout Reservation will be
holding its annual Beaver Day. Beaver Day is an important day in the
annual maintenance plan of Chesterfield Scout Reservation.
Again this year the Order of the Arrow is sponsoring Beaver Day
along with CSR. Troops are encouraged to come out to Chesterfield
and help out with getting Chesterfield Scout Reservation ready for
the summer Camp season. There are many projects that need to be
done, from small to large we have something your unit can do.
We would like to know what special skills
participants might have, so please let us know when you sign up for
Beaver Day. For example: Carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.
By knowing what special skills to expect, we will be better able to
plan the weekend.
Entire families, not
just Scouts and parents, bring along grandparents, older and younger
siblings, and other relatives who enjoy the great outdoors.
The
weekend will be at Chesterfield Scout Reservation. This is a 500 acre camp
owned by the Great Trails Council. It features 15 campsites, a dining hall,
program buildings, playing fields, a 40 acre lake and much more!
This is an overnight camping experience
happening Saturday June 14th till Sunday June 15th. It
runs 9am Saturday through 10am Sunday.
Boy
Scout Troops can have one election each year to elect youth
members into the Order of the Arrow. (Assistant Scoutmasters
under the age of 21 are considered youth members for OA
purposes). Elections must be conducted by an active member
of Memsochet Lodge who is knowledgeable of and qualified to
conduct an OA election. If you troop has no active OA
members, that’s OK, Memsochet Lodge will be glad to assist you -
just contact one of the Lodge officers or advisers.
Memsochet Lodge asks
that elections take place between January 1st and May 15th
so that the newly elected candidate has ample time to plan on
attending the Ordeal weekend in June. In order for an
election to be held, at least 50% of your active youth
members must be present – if less than 50% are present, the
election must be rescheduled. Units are urged to schedule an OA
election team from Memsochet Lodge to conduct the election,
contact one of the
Lodge officers or advisers.

Criminal Background Checks
Important
Information: Some
dedicated volunteers who have been consistently registered prior to April
2003 in the same position may not have ever had a criminal background check
(CBC) conducted by the BSA. In the continued efforts for youth protection,
the National Council will address this situation by providing a vehicle for
having a CBC conducted on those volunteers. Please read the
information
sent to Scout Executives across the nation. The Great Trails Council and the
National Council are dedicated to making this as easy as possible for
everyone involved. If you have questions, please contact your D.E. or the
council service center.
Consolidation Study Update
The Great Trails Council Executive Board voted on April 29 in
favor of the consolidation of the Great Trails Council and the Pioneer
Valley Council. The Pioneer Valley Council had previously voted to
consolidate. The next steps are information meetings for voting members of
the Councils (notably, Chartered Organization Representatives) and the
scheduling of a final vote.

the participation of Scouts in political rallies and other political
events.
